Agricultural Operator Certificate Application


The Agricultural Operators Certification is intended for farmers who would like to draft their own Nutrient Management Plans. A certified operator applicant must attend the appropriate training and take the exam. There is a one-time application fee of $20. The certification is active for one year.

The Agricultural Operators Certification can be renewed after one-year.

  1. Complete the Application for Agricultural Operators Certification The application is completed online.
  2. Pay $20 Application Fee

    This is a one-time payment.

  3. Sign up for a 2-day Mandated Training Class

    Applicants must be approved by MDA before taking the class. The training class will be taken through the University of Maryland Extension (UME). The farmer will draft a Nutrient Management Plan with the help of an expert.

  4. Take Exam

    The applicant must pass with a 70% or higher.

  5. Applicant Approval

    Once the applicant is approved, a Certified Farm Operator card will be issued.
