Maryland Department of Natural Resources - Certification of Family Transfer (B-105)


The Certificate of Family Transfer (B105) application is used to transfer ownership or partial ownership to another person.

Application Fee

The application fee will be determined by an LRS Associate and provided to you at a later time. 

General Information

A vessel transfer between immediate family members is exempt from vessel excise tax as defined in Natural Resources Article, §8-716(e)

A vessel transfer between immediate family members is exempt from vessel excise tax including the $5 minimum tax when:

The family members meet the definition of ‘immediate family’ as described below; and:

  • Vessel is currently titled in the State of Maryland
    -or -
  • The out of state vessel was previously titled in Maryland by the family member
    -or -
  • USCG Documented Vessel owner has previously paid Maryland Excise Tax

This application will need to be accompanied by either a Maryland title for the vessel or the application for a Maryland Registered or Documented Vessel (B-240) in order to complete the process. You will be redirected to the B-240 application automatically if you elect to submit this application with the B-240, otherwise you will be required to upload the Maryland title for the vessel. 

DNR ID

All applicants, including vessel transferors and recipients, are required to have a DNR ID in order to complete this application. If you do not have a DNR ID, then please Click Here to Register for a DNR ID.

Mailed Applications

You may also elect to mail in the vessel's original documents.

Please be advised that all vessel Recipients will need to be present to sign this online application. However, vessel owners, i.e. Transferors, will not need to be present to sign this online application. 

This application is typically submitted along with the Maryland title of the vessel or Application for Maryland Registered Vessel (B-240).
